Share on Facebook.Share on Twitter.Share on Google+ Collections as a topic is very vast in Java. There are lot of concepts which can be asked by an interviewer in your Java interview. But by being prepared to answer these questions, one can easily answer the frequently asked questions. My suggestion is to read the FAQ as well do some programming exercises on Java collections. Also it is a good thing to play with the programs so as to see what happens if you change some part of the code. In this article,... (more)

Hibernate Preload Pattern

posted by nehaguptanehagupta 675 days, 9 hours, 28 minutes ago
Monday, June 18, 2012 11:49:19 AM GMT
This article introduces an approach to preload certain relations in complex object graphs with Hibernate on a per-usecase basis. The intention is to prevent LazyInitializationExceptions during runtime and to reduce the N+1 SELECT problem while working with lazy relations. What does per-usecase mean in this context? The approach affords to easily decide which parts of an object graph are directly loaded by Hibernate for each and every usecase . If you're familiar with these problems you can skip the next ... How to query several columns with Hibernate?

posted by nehaguptanehagupta 675 days, 9 hours, 26 minutes ago

Even though Hibernate is called an object-relational mapper it's easy to select only a few properties instead of the whole mapped object. The hibernate query language (HQL) is very expressive. If you select some properties instead of the whole object, the call of Query#list() returns a list of object arrays. Each field of the array contains one of the selected properties. select c.name, c.order from Customer c In my opinion iterating over lists of Object[] is verbose and error-prone because proc... When I first wrote this blog my intention was to introduce you to a class ThreadLocalRandom which is new in Java 7 to generate random numbers. I have analyzed the performance of ThreadLocalRandom in a series of micro-benchmarks to find out how it performs in a single threaded environment. The results were relatively surprising: although the code is very similar, ThreadLocalRandom is twice as fast as Math.random()! (more)

In my previous post I’ve shown you how to bootstrap CDI in several environments (GlassFish, Tomcat, Jetty, Java SE). So now let’s go a bit further and use it in real code. As its name states, CDI (Contexts and Dependency Injection) is also about Dependency Injection, so let’s focus on just this feature for now. I will not define what DI (Dependency Injection) is. If you don’t know I’ll leave you to check the ... (more)

When I was a Windows programmer, my group was steadfast on running and testing with the debug version of the Windows kernel before releasing any software. Doing so seemed to always reveal many critical issues, such as memory leaks and potential misuse of Windows API calls. One of the strengths of being a Windows developer has been Microsoft's support in terms of tools and online help. (more)

Definition Precisely, Wikepedia says Dependency injection is a software design pattern that allows a choice of component to be made at run-time rather than compile time. This can be used, for example, as a simple way to load plugins dynamically or to choose mock objects in test environments vs. real objects in production environments. Let’s break the term to understand it further. What is Dependency? What is Injection?” Assignment of a instance variable to a reference is dependency injection. The... (more)
