After one month of evaluation of the frameworks and tools, i choose ExtJS for UI and Spring/SpringMVC for business layer for my pet project. Again by using ExtJS we can send data to server by form submits or as request parameters or in json format through Ajax requests. ExtJS uses JSON format in many situations to hold data. So I thought using JSON as data exchange format between EXTJS and Spring will be consistent. (more)

Hello, Recently I was working on a ExtJs editor grid where user can enter new row by pressing button in the top toolbar. A row is inserted at bottom of grid and user can insert data in row. When user tab out or click on Save, the data goes to database and grid store reloaded. See the image below. Now here is the issue. Consider grid page size as 25 and number of records are 35 and you are on page 1. That means you are viewing record 1 to 25. Now when you insert the row and when grid is refreshe... (more)

Hello, Here I am sharing some tips that would be useful for you while working with ExtJs. These tips are about issues I faced while working on ExtJs projects. 1) Get-Set ExtJs Panel HTML I don't know how many of you faced this issue. While working on one project, requirement was to set panel HTML dynamically. If you check Panel class there is not any method like getHtml() setHtml(). Following is the solution for it. var dynamicHtml = ''; myPanelObj.body.dom.innerHTML = dynamicHtml; ... (more)

Hiren's Technical Blog: ExtJs 4 MVC get reference of views

In old version of ExtJs how do we get reference of any component? Either we use control.getComponent() method or we use Ext.getCmp('controlID') method. This will give you an instance of particular component. So how do we get instance of views in ExtJs 4 MVC? it has something called refs. You can add reference to any views in any controller. refs: [         {             ref : 'myGrid',             selector: 'myGrid'         } ] Here selector is the type of the component. This us... Recently I was working on ExtJs project in which there were two grids side by side and requirement was to synchronize scrollbar of both grids. See the picture below. If user moves vertical scrollbar of left grid right grid scrollbar should be moved automatically and vice versa. So how to do that? Following is the trick. Suppose left grid object is leftGrid and right grid object is rightGrid variables. var leftGridScroller = leftGrid.getVerticalScroller();   leftGridScroller.on({     '... (more)

« Quick UpdatesResolutions and Stuff » Filtering ExtJS data stores is stupid-simple. When filtering, you have 2 main options:Filtering on a property (e.g., “field”)Filtering with a custom functionSo let’s take a quick look at each one of these.First, here’s our Model and Store:Ext.define('Person', { extend: 'Ext.data.Model', idProperty: 'id', fields: [ {'firstname', type:'string'}, {'middlename', type: 'string'}, {'lastname', type: 'string'} ] });Ext.create('Ex... « ExtJS 4: A Modified Ext.util.HistoryHello 2003, Let’s Build a Stylesheet Switcher! » One of the really great aspects of ExtJS 4 is the ability to configure how dependencies in your application are loaded, using asynchronous loading, synchronous loading, or a combination of both. This flexibility lets you really dig into detail when debugging, and you are able to file-by-file see where errors are occurring, where processes can be improved, etc. But even more, you can specify very granularly which files... « ExtJS 4: Intercepting a Window ClosureExtJS 4: My First Build » I recently implemented Ext.util.History for the first time in a project that I’m working on. If you’re not familiar with History, it allows you to “register arbitrary tokens that signify application history state on navigation actions”. You can then take these “tokens” and use them in your application to display certain views, fire actions, etc. when the user uses their browser’s “back” and “forward” buttons. In other words, it can help y... (more)

« ExtJS 4: Adding an App-wide Keystroke MappingExtJS 4: A Modified Ext.util.History » In a blog post I ran across recently, someone was trying to intercept the closure of a window via the “X” icon in the top right corner. The idea was to be able to run additional processing before closing the window (such as confirming save/cancel of data, resetting a form, updating a record, or whatever else). Turns out this is pretty simple to accomplish, but it’s good to understand what’s going on behind the scenes ... (more)

« ExtJS 4: ComponentQuery Selectors in a ControllerExtJS 4: Adding an App-wide Keystroke Mapping » As you develop your ExtJS application, you’ll inevitably need to use a good ol’ radio button. Whether you’re using radio buttons as part of a larger form, or just a one-off for a special purpose, ExtJS has some powerful ways to use them…if you know how. Let’s say we have a simple form for adding cars to our imaginary application. First, let’s create a model to define our data:Ext.define("Cars.model.Car"),... (more)

« ExtJS: Selecting Radio ButtonsExtJS 4: Intercepting a Window Closure » In a previous post, I showed how it’s pretty simply to catch keystrokes in your controller, and then do cool stuff in your app. But what if you want to add an app-wide keystroke mapping? Within such an interface, it might be nice to map keystrokes to functionality within your app (like initiating a search, closing a window, etc.). So here’s an easy way to do... (more)

Background I’ve never liked having to solve a problem in a different way for different browsers. Yes, I’m talking about you Internet Explorer. We’ve dropped support for IE6 at Rally (it still has to work, but is far from pixel perfect), but we still have many customers using IE7+. Before version 4, ExtJS catered to the lowest common denominator. That meant relying on images for rounded corners, shadows, etc. Even in modern browsers that support CSS3 styles for border radius and the like ExtJS used cros... (more)

Some Thoughts on ExtJS 4

Very recently, Sencha released the newest version of ExtJS–4.0. This release was significant, in addition to other important changes, because ExtJS 4 signals a real shift in how Sencha is pushing developers to use ExtJS. Before, you could really kind of hack together ExtJS apps, regardless of how well your efforts aligned with “best practices.” The same is still true, I suppose, but ExtJS 4 is now all about MVC…and they are quite vocal about it. By this, I mean that this rework of the framework has been... (more)
