In the previous part we’ve implemented controllers for managers and employees. Now that we know our way around, we’ll do little (but just little) more complicated stuff – controllers for tasks & timesheets. So let’s start with org.timesheet.web.TaskController. First create a class and this time we will be accessing richer domain, (more)

Welcome to the fourth part of this tutorial. In this part, we will write controllers and views using Spring MVC and think about our REST model. First thing that we must do, is make a web application from what we have so far. We will add web/WEB-INF folder to our project root. Inside WEB-INF create jsp folder. We will put our JSPs in that place. (more)

Welcome to semika's blog: Java class for Valums AJAX file uploader for IE9 with spring MVC

posted by anishaanisha 589 days, 21 hours, 42 minutes ago

I wanted to have AJAX file upload which supports multiple files uploading for my recent project. The Valums AJAX file up-loader gave me a very good experience and integrated that into my application. This file up-loader uses XHR for uploading files on the browsers which supports XMLHttpRequest level 2 and falls back to hidden iframe based upload in other browsers. (more)

Spring Framework 2.5 has introduced annotation based programming model for MVC Controllers. Spring Framework 3 has made next step, and deprecated widely used SimpleFormController. Now we are all doomed to use annotations ;) but do we really understand what is going on behind the scenes? (more)

Warlock's Thoughts: Spring MVC - Flash Attributes

Latest Spring Framework incarnation (3.1) brought interesting feature called Flash Attributes. It is remedy for the problem mentioned a long time ago, in one of my posts: Spring MVC - Session Attributes handling. This problem can be described in few words: if we want to pass the attributes via redirect between two controllers, we cannot use request attributes (they will not survive the redirect), (more)

This tutorial will show you how to take a basic Hibernate/JPA app, convert it into a Spring MVC web project to be able to view the database in a web browser, and finally use Spring's @Transactional annotation to reduce boiler plate code. This tutorial assumes you're familiar with Java and Maven, and that you've completed the first part of this tutorial. You'll also need to have downloaded and installed Tomcat. You may wish to check out the code freshly from Github. Container... (more)

How to POST and GET JSON between EXTJS and SpringMVC3

published 677 days, 1 hour, 28 minutes ago posted by pankajsharmapankajsharma 677 days, 16 hours, 41 minutes ago

After one month of evaluation of the frameworks and tools, i choose ExtJS for UI and Spring/SpringMVC for business layer for my pet project. Again by using ExtJS we can send data to server by form submits or as request parameters or in json format through Ajax requests. ExtJS uses JSON format in many situations to hold data. So I thought using JSON as data exchange format between EXTJS and Spring will be consistent. (more)

In the fifth part of the series (which is also the last one, at least for now) we will take a look at the DELETE part. Jaran Nilsen – Posted in: Articles, Prototyping Form validation with Spring MVC has not been my favourite part of web development up until now. However, today I was faced with the task yet again and decided to take a look at form validation with JSR-303 and the Hibernate Validator implementation. This article sums up my experiences this far. As we will see, validation need not be tedious and consist of mile long Validator implementations once we embrace the power of annotations and JSR-303. The articl... (more)

This post is a follow up to the Spring MVC Bare Essentials post and shows how a simple RESTful web service can be implemented using Spring MVC. It'll also show the different ways in which the controller services can be implemented and how the model can be rendered. The post will use the same classes and XML files as in the Bare Essentials post but change them to make the methods expoed by the controller RESTful. In this article we will explore how to integrate MySQL, MongoDB, and RabbitMQ in a Spring MVC application using Spring Data JPA, Spring Data MongoDB, and Spring AMQP projects respectively. Then we'll add AJAX in the presentation layer using jQuery. For presenting tabular data, we will explore two jQuery plugins: DataTables and jQgrid. The jQgrid version will use Spring Cache support to boost performance. The ultimate purpose of this article is to demonstrate how to integrate these different projects in a... (more)
