Race condition in Java is a type of concurrency bug or issue which is introduced in your program because  parallel execution of your program by multiple threads at same time, Since Java is a multi-threaded programming language hence risk of Race condition is higher in Java which demands clear understanding of what causes a race condition and how to avoid that. Anyway Race conditions are just one of hazards or riskpresented by  use of multi-threading in Java just like deadlock in Java. Race conditions occ... (more)

Java Multi-threading and the Challenges of Parallel Computing - Developer.com

Parallel computing – the jargon, which is implicitly coupled with high speed and high performance computation, is one of the most discussed topics in today’s computer world. In very simple terms, parallel computing is to break the main task into smaller units and simultaneously execute them to achieve the results.  Traditionally in Java, parallel/concurrent programming has been considered to be one of the most difficult tasks to handle due to th... Multithreading as a widespread programming and execution model allows multiple threads to exist within the context of a single process. These threads share the process' resources but are able to execute independently. The threaded programming model provides developers with a useful abstraction of concurrent execution. However, perhaps the most interesting application of the technology is when it is applied to a single process to enable parallel execution on a multiprocessor system. (more)

Java Best Practices – DateFormat in a Multithreading Environment

A typical case scenario is to convert a Date to its String representation or vice versa, using a predefined format. Creating new DateFormat instances for every conversion is very inefficient. You should keep in mind that the static factory methods “getDateInstance(..)” also create new DateFormat instances when used. What most developers do is that they construct a DateFormat instance, using a DateFormat implementation class (e.g. SimpleDateFormat), and assign its value to a class variable. The class scop... Multithreading refers to two or more tasks executing concurrently within a single program. A thread is an independent path of execution within a program. Many threads can run concurrently within a program. Every thread in Java is created and controlled by the java.lang.Thread class. A Java program can have many threads, and these threads can run concurrently, either asynchronously or synchronously. Multithreading has several advantages over Multiprocessing such as; (more)

Most of the Core Java interview questions are derived from MultiThreading & Collections framework. This post is a collection of some good questions in multi-threading area which I came across and thought of taking a note for referring anytime in future. What is synchronization in respect to multi-threading? With respect to multi-threading, synchronization is the capability to control the access of multiple threads to shared resources. Without synchronization, it is possible for one thread to modif... (more)
