Deadbolt makes it very easy to add authorization to your Play! application. However, until now, it’s been harder to add the same constraints to web services and AJAX-invoked methods – which is to say, the mechanism worked, but when access failed the response was always HTML. Less, in this asynchronous world, than useful. (more)

I wanted to have AJAX file upload which supports multiple files uploading for my recent project. The Valums AJAX file up-loader gave me a very good experience and integrated that into my application. This file up-loader uses XHR for uploading files on the browsers which supports XMLHttpRequest level 2 and falls back to hidden iframe based upload in other browsers. (more)

Introduction to Cross-Domain AJAX Whenever I need to load JavaScript application components from the Web server, I usually insert a JavaScript tag in the Web page document and used some "dirty" tricks to execute it. Cross-Domain AJAX uses this approach to implement a cleaner solution wrapped as a jQuery plug-in. (more)

Note: I still work on text, code example should be fine. REST is the one of the most popular interfaces on the web today. One part to its success it owes to its simplicity. How number of sites that support REST grows we will need some fast and good solution to use those services on client side. Even if its possible to do it all, since REST is based on http, with old AJAX calls, it would be nice to have some little more... This is one approach that i choose. Getting Started with AJAX using Java

AJAX is an acronym for Asynchronous JavaScript And XML. AJAX provides an ability to communicate with the server asynchronously. Here asynchronous is the keyword. To explain that in simple terms, you can send a request to server and continue user interaction with the user. You need not wait for response from the server. Once the response arrives, a designated area in UI will update itself and reflect the response information. Whole page need not be reloaded. This is achieved by AJAX using XML... (more)

As JavaServer Faces continues to mature and its component libraries grow more robust, it becomes an ever more compelling option for enterprise Web application development. Ajax has passed the stage of being the hot new thing to become an expected aspect of competitive Web applications. Marrying the two isn't necessarily difficult, but it does present some interesting puzzles. In this article, Java developer Matthew Tyson tackles one such puzzle: how to handle a single (or similar) Ajax request action acr... (more)

J2EE Web security is based on the separation of content into two web contexts - protected and public. But there are lots of cases (in my experience majority of cases) when you provide the same content (e.g. a web page) but with different information displayed for different types of users. For non-authenticated (non logged-in) users you hide some sensitive info from your content, and for authenticated (logged-in) users you may choose to hide of display some data depending on their authorization (the user ... Web applications often require user input, which can range from simple username/password values to data entered into a complex form with dependent fields. The task of validating Web-form input is often more complex than implementing the logic to execute on the data after it's submitted. A validation framework can help simplify validation coding -- and the more complex your validation rules, the more pain the framework can spare you. Apache Struts was one of the first Web application frameworks designed t... (more)

Ajax developers know that tables can do a lot more than display static information in an organized, readable format. By syncing up your table rows with a server-side database, you can create dynamic tables that sort, filter and paginate data on the fly. In this article, Sun Certified Java Developer Oleg Mikheev shows you how to use Struts 2, Dojo and JSON to display server-side data in an Ajax-style table. In the process, he introduces some of the Ajax-friendly features of Struts 2, including its integra... (more)
