Posted at March 13, 2009 There is much more than plain association mappings in hibernate to study. Few uncommon things can be understood from hibernate documentation. The association mappings were bringing flavors of database relations to the mapping and objects, but this, inheritance mapping, takes the object oriented concept to the database through this mapping style. I am not going to explain inheritance here. Just recall the implements/extends key words, which, in broader terms mean inheritance. ... (more)

Posted at March 13, 2009 Being a query language, you will always find it similar to SQL, but there is a fundamental difference between the SQL and HQL, Hibernate Query Language. SQL is or has to be database entity centric. As hibernate is acting as a middleware for objects and database, HQL is mix of both SQL and object oriented concept. Also I feel, it is object centric than database. How any SQL can change to become HQL can be observed in example below. Considering above rules, If I want to writ... (more)

Applying Java Server Faces (JSF) Technology to Jsp - JEE

Posted at May 6, 2009 Normally, a jsp contains static and dynamic contents. Static contents are written using html while dynamic contents are executed at server side, and the resultant data is presented again in html format. When a page is presented in a browser, it contains sequence of html tags that are nested to present view elements and data. When we are working with JSF, the presented page is still the same, but the way jsp code is written, and the way it is processed by the container, there is ma... (more)

Posted at March 30, 2009 Most of the presentation tier frameworks provide support to client side validations. Spring MVC is not different in this principle. Just that the way it is implemented is little different. You must have gone through the painful Javascript based client side validation already, and must be in the search of a better way of doing the validations. Then Spring MVC’s solution is the right and a quick way. The best thing about this validation framework is that, it is easy to learn as w... (more)

Browse > Home / Tutorials / Spring MVC Basics The Spring MVC Framework offers a simple interface based infrastructure for handing web MVC architectures. In most cases a Spring MVC application is quite testable because Spring does not require the developer to extend a base abstract actions/controllers a la Struts. There are many other Java-based web frameworks out there (Struts, WebWork, various JSF implementations, Tapestry, etc.) and all have their pros and cons, but if you are already usin... (more)

Reversing an array is a popular interview question especially in languages like C. Some days ago I faced the problem in a Java legacy project I was maintaining. As a Java guy I did not want to fiddle with a for-loop and indexes. So I looked for another solution. Besides showing the one-liner I want to give some insights which some might not be aware of. Here is my solution: public static (more)

With new JDK, there is change in use of generics and this new improved type inference for generic instance creation makes code more cleaner. It also removes unnecessarily duplication of type parameter while using generics. With this change, we need not to mention type parameter while creating type of object on both side of expression like : List (more)
